U.S. Ambassador to Israel Joins in Packing Staples for the Needy

Every day, dozens of local and visiting volunteers head to the Colel Chabad warehouse in Jerusalem to pack food staples to be distributed to thousands of needy families all over Israel. This month, the division of Colel Chabad known as Pantry Packers was joined by U.S. Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, his wife, Tammy, and the embassy staff.

“It’s the most important thing,” said Friedman as he helped the volunteers pack more than 1,000 packages of whole wheat pasta. “People cannot go undernourished. Hunger doesn’t discriminate between Jews, Muslims or Christians and Pantry Packers delivers food to the entire nation—not based upon their religion, not based upon where they live, but based upon need.”

Director of Pantry Packers, Rabbi Menachem Traxler, thanked the ambassador and his staff for their support, “This visit was a further indication of the strong support that Colel Chabad feels from the American people and highlights their appreciation for the role that charity and volunteerism plays in Jewish society.”

Friedman, in turn, commended Israel’s longest continuously-running charitable organization. “It’s been a really great experience and I want to recognize the great work that Colel Chabad and Pantry Packers do.”
